You are petite, black and white speckled and always prim and proper looking. Noting that you are even older than all of your other hen friends….those young chicks, you say!
We considered consulting a “chicken psychologist” about your strange habit of flying back and forth in and out of the coop, but our research tells us that you are intolerant of being “cooped up” and that your kind are “flyers.”
Wondering why we hadn’t been finding your little white eggs and why we have seen you outside the coop and then back in, we went looking to see what we could find. Surprise….there in the barn hidden between two bales of hay we found a little nest with quite a collection of little white eggs. They say that Hamburgs like you are really good layers, and they are right…you give us an egg almost every day, even when it is cold.
You make us smile when we see you are out of the coop and have laid your egg and when we come with food, you are right there to get in with your other hen friends to eat.
You bring joy to the farm, thank you little speckled Hen!
